General Questions
General Questions
How much does a paver patio cost in South Jersey?
Most paver patios in the Turnersville / South Jersey area run roughly $20-$40 per square foot installed, depending on paver style, base preparation, drainage needs, and any add-ons like a sitting wall or fire pit. A typical 300-400 sq ft patio often lands in the low-to-mid five figures. Every yard is different, so we give you a firm number after a free on-site visit — not a generic estimate.
How long does a hardscaping project take?
A standard paver patio usually takes 2-5 days once we start, depending on size, base depth required, and weather. Larger projects with retaining walls, steps, or a full backyard redesign can take one to two weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeline before work begins, and we don't leave a job half-finished.
Do I need a permit for a patio in New Jersey?
It depends on your township and the size/height of the project — many at-grade paver patios don't require a permit, but retaining walls over a certain height or patios attached to structural changes sometimes do. We handle the research for your specific municipality and pull any required permits as part of the job so you don't have to deal with it.
What's the process from quote to finished patio?
1) You submit the form or email us with a bit about your project. 2) We schedule a free on-site visit to measure, look at drainage/grade, and talk through design options. 3) You get a clear written quote — no surprise charges later. 4) Once you approve, we schedule the install. 5) Our crew excavates, sets a proper compacted base, lays and cuts the pavers, and finishes with polymeric sand and edge restraint. 6) We walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
Are you licensed and insured, and do you do the work yourselves?
Yes — Rapid Patios LLC is a licensed New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor (NJ HIC #13VH14151800) and carries $1,000,000 in general liability coverage. We're a small, local operation: the owner personally handles your quote and stays involved through the project, and our installation crew — with over 20 years of hardscaping experience — handles the physical work. It's the same small team on every job, not a stranger pulled off an app.
What kind of warranty do you offer?
We stand behind our workmanship and will come back to make it right if something we installed settles or fails due to installation error. Paver manufacturers also back their products with their own material warranties, which we'll go over with you when you choose your paver style.
Do you work in the winter, or only spring/summer?
Hardscaping season in South Jersey generally runs from early spring through late fall, since ground needs to be workable for excavation and base compaction. We're happy to schedule design consultations and estimates year-round, and will book your install for the earliest suitable weather window.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Turnersville, NJ and serve homeowners throughout Gloucester and Camden counties, including Sewell, Washington Township, Williamstown, Blackwood, Glassboro, Mullica Hill, and Cherry Hill — for pavers, concrete, and everything in between. Not sure if you're in range? Reach out — if we can't help, we'll tell you.

Service-Specific Questions
Paver Patios
Paver Patios FAQ
How big should my paver patio be?
Most homeowners land somewhere between 200 and 500 square feet, enough for a dining set plus a lounge area. We'll help you size it to your yard and how you plan to use it — bigger isn't always better if it crowds the rest of your lawn.
Will my new patio hold up through New Jersey winters?
That comes down almost entirely to base preparation. We excavate and compact a proper aggregate base designed for our freeze-thaw climate, which is the main reason some patios last decades and others heave within a couple winters.
Can you match my patio to my house's style?
Yes — we'll bring paver samples to your estimate and talk through color and pattern options that complement your home's brick, siding, or trim.
Walkways
Walkways FAQ
How wide should a walkway be?
Most front-entry walkways are 3-4 feet wide; wider paths (4-5 feet) work well for main routes two people will use together. We'll recommend a width based on your layout during the estimate.
Can you remove my old concrete walkway first?
Yes — demolition and haul-away of old concrete or asphalt is something we handle as part of the project, and it's factored into your estimate up front.
Retaining Walls
Retaining Walls FAQ
Do retaining walls need a permit in New Jersey?
It depends on your township and the wall's height — many shorter walls don't require a permit, but taller walls or ones supporting a structure often do. We research your specific municipality's rules and handle any required permit as part of the job.
Why do some retaining walls fail?
Almost always it's inadequate drainage or base preparation — water builds up behind the wall with nowhere to go, or the base wasn't compacted deep enough for the wall height and soil type. We build in drainage gravel, pipe, and proper base depth on every wall.
Fire Pits
Fire Pits FAQ
Wood-burning or gas fire pit — which is better?
Wood-burning is simpler to build and gives that classic campfire experience, while gas is cleaner and more convenient (on with a switch, no ash cleanup) but requires a gas line run by a licensed professional. We'll help you weigh the tradeoffs for your household.
Can you add a fire pit to my existing patio?
In most cases, yes. We'll assess your existing patio's layout and base, and either build the fire pit into a section of the existing patio or add an adjacent paver area sized to fit it.
Pool Patios
Pool Patios FAQ
Are pavers slippery around a pool?
Quality paver products used for pool decks have a textured, slip-resistant finish specifically because they're marketed for pool and wet-area use — a meaningful upgrade over smooth-troweled concrete.
Can you replace my existing concrete pool deck with pavers?
Yes, this is one of our more common pool patio projects. We remove and haul away the old concrete, regrade as needed, and install a new paver deck with proper drainage away from the pool.
Full Hardscape Projects
Full Hardscape Projects FAQ
Can we do this in phases instead of all at once?
Yes — we'll design the full layout up front so everything is consistent, then build a phased estimate so you can prioritize (for example, patio and walkway this year, retaining wall and fire pit next year).
How is a full hardscape project different from booking separate projects?
One team plans the whole layout together, so transitions between the patio, walkway, and walls are designed intentionally rather than stitched together after the fact — and we only mobilize equipment and crew once instead of multiple times.
Concrete Work
Concrete Work FAQ
Should I choose concrete or pavers for my project?
Concrete is typically the lower up-front cost and works well for a simple slab, walkway, or utility pad. Pavers cost more but won't crack the way a poured slab can, and if a section ever gets damaged, it's repairable stone-by-stone instead of replacing the whole pour. We'll walk you through both options honestly during your free estimate.
Can you replace my old concrete with pavers?
Yes — this is one of our most common concrete calls. We tear out and haul away the old concrete, then design and install a paver replacement that matches or complements pavers already on your property. A lot of homeowners come to us thinking they want a like-for-like concrete pour and leave with a paver upgrade instead.
Landscaping
Landscaping FAQ
Do I need to be doing a hardscape project to book landscaping?
No — landscaping is its own service. A lot of customers book it alongside a new patio or walkway so the whole yard is finished together, but we also take on standalone planting, bed, grading, and cleanup projects.
What kind of plants do you use?
We lean toward plant choices suited to South Jersey's soil and climate that don't demand constant upkeep. We'll talk through options that fit your yard's sun exposure and how much maintenance you actually want to do during your free estimate.
Painting
Painting FAQ
Do you paint both interior and exterior?
Yes — we handle both. Interior rooms, full-house repaints, and exterior siding, trim, doors, and shutters. We'll walk the space with you and give you a free estimate for exactly what you need.
How long does a painting project take?
A single room typically takes a day or two including prep and drying time between coats. A full interior or exterior repaint depends on square footage and surface condition — we'll give you a realistic timeline during your free estimate.
